Pittsburgh Shopping

(Try keyword "Women's Fashions" or a ZIP code)

Once the industrial hub for steel, iron and glass, Pittsburgh now boasts technology, robotics, medicine, and tourism -– and abundant shopping, with no sales tax on clothing or shoes. Near hotels and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, downtown Pittsburgh department stores include the 11-floor Kaufmann's at Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street. A half block away is Saks Fifth Avenue. At Fifth, Liberty, and Penn avenues, Fifth Avenue Place Arcade Shops house boutiques from Chico's to the Tall Girl Shop. On Grant Street, One Oxford Centre features timeless classics of Ann Taylor and Talbots. Burlington Coat Factory, at Sixth Avenue and Smithfield Street, features trendy fashions and home furnishings at discounts. Next door, Barnes & Noble stocks thousands of titles. For wholesale / retail antique and estate specialty jewelers, Pittsburgh's Diamond District awaits in the art deco-era Clark Building.

Downtown's "T" subway connects across the river to the Shops at Station Square, a restored 19th-century railroad building housing dozens of specialty shops and restaurants. Flavors of Pittsburgh meld in the Strip District at downtown's edge, featuring meats, pastas and cheeses at Pennsylvania Macaroni, fresh catch from Benkovitz Seafood and Wholey Fish Market, baked goods from Enrico Biscotti, chocolates from Mon Aimee, and coffees, gourmet spices, and nuts from Presto George. Pittsburgh-style presents are abundant at the Sen. John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center gift shop, and the Andy Warhol Museum Shop also provides for great finds. Shadyside features upscale shops, including United Colors of Benetton, Gap, and Banana Republic. South Side Shops boasts stores for gifts, books, antiques and jewelry. South Side Works features upscale boutiques. In the surburbs, Waterfront in Homestead, built on former steel mill site, provides shopping, entertainment and dining.

Via the Parkway East, through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, Monroeville Mall awaits along with other shopping plazas in the Miracle Mile. On Parkway West between the airport and downtown Pittsburgh: The Mall at Robinson, Robinson Town Centre and The Pointe at North Fayette offer shops, restaurants and home furnishing stores, including IKEA. In the North Hills are North Hills Village, and Northway Mall. Trendy boutiques and department store branches await at Ross Park Mall. In the South Hills are the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, South Hills Village, and Village Square Mall. Century III Mall, also south, offers 200 specialty stores. Prime Outlets at Grove City, north of Pittsburgh, has more than 140 outlet shops. The Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, opened in 2005, has more than 175 anchors and shops. Airmail, at Pittsburgh International Airport, provides for sunglasses to fine jewelry.
